Sex Crimes

In Kansas, sex crimes range from light offenses considered misdemeanors to serious offenses categorized as felonies. Whether the crime charged is a misdemeanor or a felony, the social stigma and personal embarrassment imposed on persons convicted of these crimes (sex offenders) leave lasting damage to reputations and careers.

Sexual offenses include but are not limited to:

  • Incest
  • Child Pornography
  • Pornography
  • Prostitution
  • Molestation
  • Obscenity
  • Sexual harassment
  • Sexual Assault
  • Rape
  • Date Rape
  • Statutory Rape
  • Indecent Exposure
  • Sexual Battery

Penalties for Sex Crimes

Penalties for sex crimes convictions vary from non reporting probation to 20+ years in prison. In addition, certain convictions required that the defendant register for the rest of their life at local, state and federal levels.

In 2006 Jessica’s Law was enacted, designed to be tough on crimes involving child victims. The law establishes penalties for sexual abuse of children with first time sex offenders receiving a minimum sentence for 25 years, a second time sex offender receiving a mandatory sentence of 40 years and a third time offender imprisoned for life without parole.

Sex Crime Defense

Being convicted of any crime for which you were not guilty is a devastating experience; however, being accused of a felony sex crime puts your freedom at serious risk, especially when involving an under age alleged victim. The most effective measure you can take is to obtain a criminal defense lawyer who is skilled and experienced in handling these types of cases. If you are being investigated for committing a sex crime, you should obtain legal counsel immediately, preferably while the investigation is still ongoing, and before indictment.

In this day and age, it is unfortunate how many cases are tried in the media.  Our lawyers at Hulnick, Stang & Rapp, P.A. will strive to keep your matters private. We will listen to your side of the story, thoroughly investigate the allegation, and develop a strong defense. Your reputation and liberties depend on having accomplished attorneys to defend your rights.
